KEY FACTS
- The Republic of Rwanda joined INBAR on 1 October 2006
- Rwanda’s designated focal point with INBAR is the Rwanda Forestry Authority under the Ministry of Environment.
- At least four bamboo species are present in Rwanda: Bambusa vulgaris, Oldeania alpina, Dendrocalamus giganteus, and Oxytenanthera abyssinica. The major part of Rwanda’s bamboo resources is located within National Parks (Data compiled by Ministry of Natural Resources).
- Traditional uses of bamboo in Rwanda include construction of housing and fencing, as well as furniture and handicrafts manufacturing (Data compiled by Ministry of Natural Resources).
- On average of the years 2010, 2015, and 2019, Rwanda imported bamboo commodities worth USD 0.9 million, with bamboo furniture, plywood, shoots and flooring as the main bamboo products imported (Source: UN Comtrade, 2021).
