To guide evidence-based policy making and targeted interventions for the Northeast Region (NER) bamboo sector, INBAR has completed an in-depth appraisal of regional bamboo resources and their fitness for diverse industrial uses. The work maps current and emerging value chains, diagnoses constraints and growth levers, and sets out a practical action plan to reinforce existing chains while catalyzing new ones to deliver economic, environmental, and social gains across the region. The study also outlines priority infrastructure needs—including dedicated bamboo parks and community-based aggregation and primary processing hubs—to enable sectoral growth in the NER. For field-level resource mapping, INBAR developed a mobile application and trained local practitioners to deploy it. Around 1,000 farmer records have been captured across six NER states. As part of this initiative, a series of events were organised to identify the potential sources of investment for new enterprises and start-ups, and explore funding opportunities for value chain upgradation and new value chain development. Representatives from state and other government bodies and implementing agencies of various projects / initiatives, entrepreneurs, business development service providers, and other key stakeholders also participated in such events and shared their experiences and inputs to draw appropriate action strategy for the Bamboo sector development.
