Strengthening Bamboo-Based Enterprises for Sustainable Livelihood and Income Generation in Ghana

The project, under the Fund for Triangular Cooperation with Asia, will foster cooperation between Ghana, Germany and India. The triangular cooperation project will aid Ghana’s recovery from widespread unemployment and rising poverty resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The project will adopt an enterprise-based approach to create sustainable and high-value economic opportunities for producers, artisans, designers, micro and small enterprises, and traders across the bamboo value chain.

In many communities in Ghana, bamboo and rattan are relevant resources for job creation and income generation; however, these resources are often perceived as having low value-addition or limited product applications in markets. For this reason, the project will focus on sharpening the technical and business skills of targeted groups to establish enterprises capable of producing high-quality bamboo and products, generating adequate income, contributing to local and national economies, and attracting investment.

INBAR and GIZ will be working closely with the Forestry Commission Training Center of Ghana and technical experts from Indian institutions to build capacities of the target beneficiaries over a period of six months.
