The Oriental Republic of Uruguay Joins INBAR
INBAR warmly welcomes the accession of its 51st Member State.
Recently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China received the official accession document submitted by H.E. Fernando Lugris, Ambassador of Uruguay to China. On 1 October 2024, Uruguay formally joined INBAR as its 51st Member State.
Uruguay is located in the southeast of South America. Rich in forestry and fishery resources, the country has a long history of bamboo development and utilization. INBAR’s demonstration projects and promotion activities in the region have enabled the Uruguayan government to fully realize the unique value and role of bamboo and rattan in social, economic and environmental development.
In September 2023, Uruguay submitted an official letter to join INBAR. In October of the same year, the INBAR Council approved Uruguay to become an Observer. Thereafter, Uruguay initiated its domestic legal approval procedures for joining INBAR in accordance with relevant requirements.
In September 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China received Uruguay’s instrument of accession to the “Agreement on the Establishment of the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan,” marking the completion of all formal procedures for Uruguay to join INBAR, after which it became INBAR’s official Member State.
A warm welcome to the newest addition to the INBAR family!
