Bamboo’s impact on climate, fashion and textiles: Insights from the Global Commodities Forum

Bamboo cultivation, technological advances and composite materials highlighted at key meeting.
From 9 to 10 December 2024, the Global Commodities Forum, hosted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, was held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme “Commodities amid the climate emergency: Sustainable trade and value addition.”
Li Lan, Director of the External Relations and Partnership Department of INBAR, was invited to participate in the session on “Promoting natural fibers in the Climate Action Agenda” and delivered a speech in the guest dialogue session.

Li introduced the positive contributions made by INBAR in the field of sustainable development, sharing the characteristics and potential of bamboo resources, relevant fields of bamboo materials, and applications and market prospects of bamboo fibers in sustainable fashion and textile industries.
In the Q&A, bamboo received a high degree of attention from participants, with representatives from UN agencies, countries and institution chiefs engaging in lively exchange on topics such as bamboo resource cultivation, technological innovation in bamboo products and bamboo composite materials.
