Head of China’s National Forestry and Grasslands Administration meets with INBAR Director General

Meeting between Head of China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration and INBAR’s Director General points the way forward for future collaboration.

On 19 April 2024, Mr. Guan Zhiou, Administrator of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (National Park Management Bureau) (NFGA), met with INBAR’s Director General, Ambassador Teshome Toga Chanaka, in Beijing. Both sides had in-depth exchanges on continuing to strengthen cooperation in the fields of bamboo and rattan.

Guan congratulated Teshome on his official appointment as the Director General of INBAR, and introduced the development of bamboo resources and the bamboo industry in China. He expressed that NFGA will continue to support the development of INBAR, and hopes that both sides will strengthen communication and cooperation in implementing the Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic (BASP) Initiative and the Global Action Plan for Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic (2023-2030), as well as in promoting the construction of a China-Africa Bamboo Center in Ethiopia. He also invited Teshome to visit different regions of China during his term to learn about the development of forestry, grass, and bamboo industries in person.

Teshome highly appreciated the tremendous achievements of China’s bamboo industry. He went on to sincerely thank China for providing robust support INBAR over the years, and expressed his hope that China will continue to play an important role as the Host Country. At the same time, INBAR will work to promote lessons learned and technologies from China, and continuously advocate for more countries to join INBAR.
