Myanmar’s Ministry of Science and Technology visits INBAR Headquarters

Meeting between Myanmar’s science and tech leaders and INBAR helps lay the groundwork for promoting the Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic Initiative in the Lancang-Mekong Region.
On 14 July 2023, a delegation from Myanmar’s Ministry of Science and Technology arrived at INBAR Headquarters. Led by Permanent Secretary Sai Kyaw Naing Oo, the group met with Professor Jiang Zehui, Co-Chair of the INBAR Board of Trustees, and carried out productive talks with related INBAR personnel.
Both parties stressed the productive history of cooperation between them while also mentioning the need to strengthen collaboration in carrying out the Global Development Initiative by promoting the Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic Initiative in the Lancang-Mekong Region.

In their talks, it was also recognized that many issues were of common interest. Both parties will earnestly work to promote the bamboo and rattan industries in the Lancang-Mekong Region, as these plants can help local communities cope with climate change and also contribute to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. There was also discussion about deepening cooperation in project development and implementation with support from the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Fund.
Before the visit ended, a gift exchange was held as an expression of goodwill and friendship.
